A children's eco-contest is taking place with the support of Titan-Polymer plant

The Pskov eco-library for children “Raduga”(Rainbow) and Titan-Polymer plant invite young residents of Pskov to take part in a creative contest of eco-fairy tales. The eco-contest is devoted to the Year of Russians' Cultural Heritage and is held as part of the library’s social and educational project “Folklore. Traditions. Ecology: Old fairy tales in an eco way”.

School students are invited to come up with their own eco-related story, taking as the basis a plot of a Russian folk tale, including a Pskov one, or a separate storyline of any folk tale. The new version should complement the original or add new meaning to it.

The prize fund of the contest will be provided by Pskov Titan-Polymer plant. The best fairy tales will be published in the final collection of works and become the basis for methodological materials on environmental education.

“Children can develop healthy eco habits by reading folk tales. They can learn from them that it is necessary to treat nature with care. In my opinion, folk tales are quite “eco-friendly”in many ways: they reflect people’s attitude to the world around them. This is why organizing such contests for children has a special place in the environmental education of the younger generation.

As part of the corporate project “Eco-Saturday”Titan-Polymer will present eco-boxes to the contest winners. Other participants will receive environmental souvenirs,” Snezhanna Ermolaeva, coordinator of the “Eco-Saturday”project, communications director of Titan-Polymer said.

The organizers note that in the process of creative work children will immerse themselves in the study of folklore and traditions of our ancestors. The contest aims to develop eco-culture, respectful attitude to folklore and nature, and patriotism.

“We want to get the young generation interested in the experience of our ancestors and oral folklore traditions. Our ancestors cherished nature. The basics of eco-friendly behavior appeared in Prewriting Era and have reached us in fairy tales,” head of the information services marketing sector of the Raduga library Irina Stolova noted. “A fanfic contest is an opportunity to use knowledge of ecology and nature protection in a certain situation. It is also a good chance to demonstrate creativity”.

Contest works are accepted from October 17 to December 1, 2022. The winners will be awarded at the Children's Environmental Library "Raduga" (Rainbow).

Detailed contest conditions are in the regulation in the "Raduga" library group https://vk.com/wall-19447752_3445. There you will also find guidelines on how to write a fanfic and links to the texts of Russian folk fairy tales.
