The "Garden of Memory" campaign was held in Pskov district

Fifty rowan, pine and thuja young plants were planted in May in Pskov district as part of the international campaign «Garden of Memory». The event was timed to coincide with the 75th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War.

As the correspondent of Pskov Newsline reports, the event was attended by representatives of local authorities, «Victory Volunteers», social activists and collectives of Pskov organisations.

You can join the campaign as a participant and plant trees at the chosen location or as a volunteer», the regional headquarters chairperson of the All-Russian Public Movement «Victory Volunteers», Ekaterina Rodina said.

The factory personnel from Titan-Polymer Ltd joined the campaign. The company representatives planted 10 thuja seedlings on the territory of Tyamshan gymnasium.

«This action will allow paying tribute to each hero, eternizing memory and making the world a better place. There is nothing more important than the memory of people, which unites all of us. Each tree planted as part of this action will become a symbol of pride for the heroes who forged this Victory. I personally planted trees in honor of my grandfathers who defended Pskov land. It should be noted that the event was held in compliance with sanitary and epidemiological requirements to avoid the spread of coronavirus infection. The participants were provided with means of protection, they kept the permitted social distance.

The action «Garden of Memory» will take place in every district of the region and as a result several thousand trees will be planted across the region. Most number of trees will be planted at the Memorial of Alexander Matrosov in Loknyansky district. 500 fir-trees will be planted there. And 300 pine trees will be planted on Druzhba Street in Velikie Luki. In the Central Park of Pechory, 200 cotoneaster nitidus bushes are supposed to be planted to form a hedge.

Totally 27 million trees will be planted in Russia and the CIS countries in memory of everyone who died in the Great Patriotic War.

The «Garden of Memory» campaign is organized by «Victory Volunteers» and Memory Fund of Victory Commanders with the support of the Ministry of Natural Resources, the national project «Ecology», Federal Forestry Agency and Presidential Grants Fund.
