Olga Dementyeva: The country's economic growth is impossible without chemical technology

At Pskov News Agency Media Center a round table discussion was held devoted to the chemical industry development in Pskov region. The event was correlated with professional holiday of workers in the chemical and petrochemical industry, which is annually celebrated on last Sunday of May.

Olga Dementyeva, head of the Development Department of Titan-Polymer Ltd said that the chemical complex was divided into the chemical industry and it includes the production of mineral fertilizers, paints and varnishes, etc.

“The country's economic growth is impossible without chemical technology. In the world economy, the chemical industry is the basic one, it influences other industries – construction and agriculture,” said Dementieva, adding that chemical technology is the basis for most modern materials.

The speaker said that the chemical complex was the most knowledge-intensive.

“If we solve knowledge-intensive tasks, then PET is the basis for composite materials,” Olga Dementyeva is assured. “This gives a huge impetus to the regional economic development, this is a strategic and priority project. Other key industries do not develop without chemistry”.

The meeting was attended by Andrey Mikheyev, Chairman of Pskov region Committee for Economic Development and Investment Policy, Anton Yakovlev, acting General Director of Moglino, German Petrushko, General Director of Pskov Titan-Polymer plant, Olga Dementyeva, Development Director of Titan-Polymer, Dmitry Generalov, Head of Production of Polyplast LLC, Vladimir Pasichnyuk, Head of Production of Nor-Maali LLC, Taras Antal, Pro-Rector for Research of Pskov State University, Doctor of Biological Sciences.

The round table discussion participants identified a number of problems relative to the chemical industry:

- shortage and training of personnel;

- feedstock shortage;

- low competitiveness of domestic manufactures due to a technological lag and usage of imported feedstock;

- lack of domestic equipment;

- overregulated legislation.
